The government of Torit State in collaboration with Food and Agricultural Organization or FAO and other partners has launched a two-day livestock and agricultural show at Torit freedom square.
The show aims at promoting the local livestock and improving agricultural produce by awarding farmers with healthy animals.
It attracted a number of farmers from across the state with varieties of both livestock and horticultural produce.
Some of the local produce presented during the show includes coffee, avocado fruit, sunflower seeds, lulu oil and rice.
National Minister of Livestock and Fisheries James Janka Duku promises to raise the produce to the international standard through the help of partners.
Janka urges farmers to learn good method of raising healthy marketable livestock and develop the spirit of competition.
Torit State Governor, Tobiolo Alberio Oromo discourages lack of creativity among famers which he says hinders better productivity.
The Governor calls on partners to rehabilitate roads leading to the major agricultural sites in the state for easy transportation.
Jenifer Fatna, who works as a community animal’s health worker, is one of the winners of the award.
She expresses her happiness for being among the winners.
Fatna applauds the judges for the fair prize given to her team.
She asks partners to stand with farmers and provide medication to the animals where necessary.
The award that was given to farmers was based on the height, belly capacity and general health of the animal for both male and female goats.
The event was attended by officials including the state government and other representatives from the embassy of France, China and European Union.
