Commissioner of Kupera County in Yei River State Emmanuel Khamis Richard on Thursdays described January 9th as a very historic and important day for the citizens of South Sudan.

He explains it is the day when SPLM/A signed the comprehensive peace agreement with the Islamic front government under former president Omar Hassan El-Bashir, Radio Easter reports.

Khamis says the day also reminds of their long liberation struggle to determine freedom and human dignity.

The commissioner recalled that through this day the Comprehensive Peace Agreement resulted to the right to self-determination which led to the referendum for the success of the independence.

‘This day also reminds the people of South Sudan of the achievement of the SPLM as the lead revolutionary movement at the time and success for citizens ending the long suffering of oppression of the people of the country for generations and decades’, he noted.
