The Deputy vice chancellor for Administration and finance at University of Bahr el Ghazal is urging communities in Wau to change bad traditions and cultural practices.
Voice of Hope radio reports that, Dr. Hawa Marajan points out gender based violence against women and girls as common practice in South Sudan because traditions allow it to happen.
She adds these bad cultural practices needs to be changed and young people should be the activists to lead the campaign.
Dr. Marajan explains there are different forms of gender based violence and people are not aware about it.
She encourages parents and guardians to educate their daughters instead of forcing them to marry early.
Dr. Hawa encourages promotion of gender equality in every aspect of life.
The official was speaking during an occasion to honour graduates of Luo and Awiel community of 2011 to 2018.
