Yei Teachers receive Mines Risk education training

Save Lives Initiatives South Sudan a national non-governmental organization with support from UNICEF is conducting a mine Risk education training for teachers in Yei River State.
 
According to Radio Easter, the training is aimed at reducing injuries from explosive remnants of war and to identify safe land for socio economic activities.
 
Other objectives of the training includes raising awareness to teachers and communities to fully understand mine activities, share knowledge about mine existence in South Sudan and deliver messages to school children in order to safeguard them from explosive.
 
South Sudan has a long history of armed conflict following the first civil war of 1955-1972 and 1983-2005 with a continued fighting in other parts of the country.
 
Mine action is an integrated process of reducing socio economic and environmental impacts of mines and explosive.
 
The four day workshop which commenced on Monday is expected to conclude on Thursday.
