Kiir commissions over 200 million USD power project in Juba

The President of South Sudan has on Thursday established over 200 million US Dollars Power Project in Juba at Kondokoro, Mangala County.
 
Salva Kiir Mayardit in his speech at Ezra Juba Power launch said the new project will get rid of the pollution on the environment because of the large scale use of diesel.
 
‘The government will effectively focus on exploiting and developing our hydro and renewable energy resources’, he adds.
 
President Kiir stressed that the project is a new beginning of no more war, time for development and services delivery.
 
Ministry of Energy and Dams Undersecretary, Engineer Lawrence Laku Wani regrets the failure on the Fula Arabic Project due to lack of capacity but Ezra Power Plant makes more progress.
 
Ezra Group General Manager, Meron Tekie Ezra, urges the government to support the project to avail money at the Central Bank because the project machineries are brought from abroad.
 
He discloses that over 300 South Sudanese have been employed in the project and the company spent one million US dollars to control the pollution produced from the machines.
 
The Africa Development Bank Country Head, Benedict Carol, says the over 170 million US dollar funded thirteen operations in energy sectors and over thirty million US dollar for the Juba Power Distribution.
 
The one hundred megawatts of Ezra Juba Power project valued more than two hundred and fifty US dollar that will be used in the four phases.
 
Since 2011, South Sudan population is relying on generators and using fuel with unstable prices in the market.
