Western Lakes Ministry of Education Marks child right Day

Western Lakes State Ministry of Education in collaboration with UNICEF celebrates the international Child Right Day under the theme; ‘Respect Children’s Rights’.
 
Speaking during the event UNICEF representative Emanuel Gai says there is a significant progress in promotion of child rights in South Sudan, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
He adds since the country ratified the convention on the right of the child on 23 January 2015, some progress has been made.
 
John Makol Dut children’s representative calls on parents to allow children to study.
 
Meanwhile speaker of Western Lake Assembly Chol Kuotwel Manhom points out many children are involve themselves in bad practice like robbery and killing. 
 
The speaker blames parents for failing to bring up children in the right manner.
 
A joint press statement by UNICEF and World Vision says one in three schools has been damaged, destroyed, or occupied since 2013, leaving 2.2 million children out of school.
 
It adds, over 8,500 children need family tracing to be reunited with their families and caregivers 
 
And over 19,000 children have been associated with armed forces and groups 
 
Girls and boys are the future of South Sudan; the children need protection from harm.
