Over 30 million dollar power project commissioned in Juba

Africa Development Bank provided thirty-three million US dollars to support the Juba Power Project to make the power city operate in Juba before 2020, says Minister of Energy and Dam.
 
Dr Dhieu Mathok told media at Ezra Juba Power that the rate of one kilowatt will be sold at 0.395 cent of US dollar which is equivalent to fifty-nine South Sudanese Pounds, according to the central bank rate, and one hundred twenty-six SSP at the black market rate.
 
The Ezra Juba Power project will be handed over to government by the end of this year after the company finishes the final touches, he adds.
 
On Thursday the president of South Sudan,  Salva Kiir Mayardit  is expected to launch phase one, of the four phases that will cover Juba in general, says minister.
The remaining  three phases will be commissioned by the president in different period of time, Mathok explains.
 
Feeder A and B will be operational next week and the connections will continue house by house, he adds.
 
Many customers are connected  to the power and they will be buying electricity for both domestic and commercial use after the official launch on Thursday, he notes.
 
Thirty thousand households’ will be supplied with EZRA Juba power that is located in Kondokoro, Mangala County. It consists of four phases that will supply 100MW each phase will be launched each year in three-year period according to Ezra Power Company media release.
 
Phase one will supply 30MW, phase 2 supplies 20MW, phase three supplies 30MW and four supplies twenty megawatt, it reads.
 
The government awarded the private company the contract in August 2017.
 
EZRA Group is a compound company founded in October 1986 in Ethiopia by two brothers. It has since grown into a conglomerate that is involved in the Construction Industry, Transport, General Trading and Supplies.
