Sports and cultural dances for peace start in Rumbek

Sport for peace including football, volleyball, basketball and cultural dances started on Wednesday morning at Rumbek Freedom Square.
 
The activities are organized by Justice and Peace Desk, Caritas of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Western Lakes State.
 
According to the document seen by Good News Radio on Tuesday, the tournament aims at promoting peace and unity among students from different schools in Rumbek.
 
Speaking to Good News Radio shortly after the first game, Director of Sports in the ministry appreciates the teams for playing peacefully as brothers and sisters.
 
The Captains of both school teams have revealed that this is their first time to participate in secondary schools sports competition.
 
Headmaster of Savannah High School, who spoke on behave of the teachers says that sport is a mother of peace that needs to be promoted in the state.
 
In the opening game of the tournament saw Abukloi beating the Savannah high school two goals to one.
 
Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek is a part of pastoral department that conducts peace initiatives, trauma healing and conflict mitigation amongst others.
 
The sport for peace tournament is expected to conclude on November 9, 2019.
