UNESCO calls on South Sudan government to protect Journalist

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO is appealing to the government of South Sudan to put policies for protection of Journalist in the country.
 
Speaking during Media Symposium UNESCO’s representative Doreen Loboka says safety of journalist requires a combined effort from all media stakeholders including the government.
 
She adds measures needs to be put in place to ensure freedom of the press and expression in the country.
 
Representative of UK ambassador Sharon Dias says a free and independent media is essential for a democratic society.
 
The speakers were talking during the celebration of international day to end impunity against Journalist on Wednesday in Juba under the theme; ‘Building trust and countering disinformation’.
