Citizens from different parts of Juba, including Nyakuron and Gudele call for peaceful formation of government of National Unity on November 12th.

They urge the government not to take the country back to war because people are suffering.

One of the citizens Mary, not her real name says she is scared that the country may return to war.

‘November 12 is a scaring day that each and everyone have that fear that there will be a war. I too, also have that fear that it may come to something else. If I have somewhere to go, maybe I will also escape on that very day, when that day passes, I will come back, but I have nowhere to go. People are shopping, buying beans, charcoal, hopping that it shouldn’t happen like 2016 where people were taken by surprise without food in the house’.

Another citizen says people are afraid of what may happen if the parties did not commit to the agreement.

‘The general situation is that, people are afraid and others are planning to go away to escape fighting. People have suffered and we ask them to be committed to what they signed. Not only that, they should know that the people have suffered enough. They should relinquish fighting. Let be committed to peace so that we enjoy the rest of our life’,

Sam Kei is also another citizen who says he is happy that the unity government will be formed, but calls for the implementation of the agreement.

‘After I heard that the government is really going to be formed, I was really very pleased because we or the whole country is suffering. Some of the people think if the government is formed, there is going to be war. Some of them are afraid and some of them are trying to go outside the country. But I myself, I was born in this country, grew up here and all the conflicts that took place in the country, I was here. I will continue to stay and I will be ready to face any challenges that may happen. What is very important, let them come and let the citizens build confidence in them. Let them not go back to war because citizens are always the victims of any conflict’, says

Another citizen is hopeful that it will be peaceful. ‘Me personally, I believe that they will form it and I have already told God in prayer that we want it peaceful and that is my hope that it will happen and it will be peaceful. There is no war. I don’t want to think otherwise, but off course it will be peaceful. That is my own pinion as a person’

During a meeting with UN Security Council in Juba Dr Riek Machar Teny called for extension of the transitional period to resolve the outstanding issues ahead of the formation of unity government on November 12th.

Meanwhile President Kiir said all parties had committed to forming the unity government as scheduled and the international community expected that to happen.
