East African Community or EAC ministers of health in collaboration with investors and development partners resolved to continue to support in the implementation of the health investment priorities.
They agreed to explore and implement innovative financing mechanisms to increase domestic resources for health in partner states.
The ministers resolve to continue to strengthen EAC regional capacities for infrastructure and human resources development for the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery from epidemic prone infectious diseases
They recommended reinforcing health professional regulatory bodies to ensure availability and performance of qualified and skilled workforce for the delivery of quality health services.
The ministers resolved to strengthen capacities of National Medicines Regulatory Authorities to improve access to quality and affordable medicines in partner states.
They want to oversee regular performance review, generation of evidence for management and evaluation of programs in the health sector to inform policies for better delivery of quality health.
They also agreed to support the implementation of the digital health initiatives in the region for efficient service delivery and enhance Investors, private sector and civil society organizations.
The ministers recommended sustaining efforts for increased domestic financing and coordinate establishment of accountability framework for all stakeholders.
The resolutions and recommendations were put out after Health ministers’ meeting over the weekend in Nairobi, Kenya.
