Over 51 returnees who arrived in Ikwoto on Thursday are in dire need of basic services, including food and health.

Ikwoto Commissioner Cirilo Akoyo says most of the returnees came on foot from neighbouring camps of Northern Uganda, mainly women and children.

He calls on the government and humanitarian agencies to intervene by supporting them in the area.

The Commissioner says the number of returnees coming to the area keeps increasing on daily basis, making it hard to determine the exact figure.

He adds that most of the returning populations lost their children on the way due to hunger and poor health.

Commissioner Akoyo says most of the displaced people are sheltered at his home in Ikwoto and others joint their families.

He worries that without any intervention the condition of the returnees may worsen.
