Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in Wau State confirmed on Friday taking responsibility of a newborn baby damped at the POC Compound.

Director-General Ann Daniel explained that a policeman found the baby last week at night at UNMISS’ POC gate.

She added that the policeman took law procedures and now the baby is under the responsibility of the Ministry at Child Protection Center.

Ms Daniel regretted that the ministry faces a lot of challenges, including safe place for orphans and damped babies.

She urged the government to provide land to the ministry to build safe houses for orphans and other children.

The director-general warned that such mothers are teenagers who got unwanted pregnancy, but it is a crime to damp babies.

She called on mothers to take responsibility of their girls.
