UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs or OCHA reported that seasonal flooding is affecting estimated 600,000 and 800,000 people in South Sudan.
It says ‘as of late October, Ayod, Maban, Mayom, Nyirol, Pibor and Uror in Greater Upper Nile were among the counties most heavily affected by the floods’.
The Office says access to safe drinking water, anti-malarial and other basic drugs are critical needs.
OCHA adds that plastic sheets are urgently required to be used as temporary shelters for families with damaged houses.
It says regular humanitarian response in line with the 2019 Humanitarian Response Plan is ongoing in flood-affected counties.
The Office discloses that humanitarian organizations continue to engage with the government on the needs and the response.
