Thirty three businessmen are in jail in Juba for not paying loans on time and loan with interest says Lodu Lukak Legge, Deputy Chairperson of National Chamber of Commerce.

He told media on Thursday that families of the businessmen came and complained about the case of illegal loans that affected them.

Lukak adds that the transaction between the jailed traders was illegal and the Chamber cannot afford to bail them out.

Lukak urges traders to avoid this illegal practice because the Chamber will not be responsible of new coming cases.

The Chamber of Commerce tried to bail out some traders after they received complaints from families, but still there is challenge, he explains.

The Secretary-General of the Chamber of Commerce, Simon Akuei Deng cites that there are registered companies involved in the case.

He regrets that the process destroys the value of the South Sudanese economy as it is not helpful to the country.

The Chamber of Commerce has formed a committee to investigate the case with Bank of South Sudan and lawyers have been hired to develop a law to stop the act.
