The security situation in Tonj East is relatively calm after a conflict that erupted among Thiik, Akok and Jalwaau, this is according to State Minister of Information Culture, Youth and Sports, William Wol Mayom.
He told Don Bosco Radio that the conflict left 31 people dead, over 70 wounded and thousands displaced.
‘We have had a recent communal conflict that has erupted on the first to the second of September 2019 between Thiik, Akok and Jalwaau. This communal conflict has caused 31 lives confirmed dead, while over seventy people are wounded’ says Wol.
Wol says the state government quickly intervened by deploying organized forces.
‘In the process, when the governor of Tonj State heard the communal conflict, he intervened by sending two hundred and ninety joined operations or security forces, to calm down the situation’, he adds.
He adds that the wounded people are undergoing medication.
‘The governor also managed to rescue the wounded people by sending military helicopter through his connection with headquarters of SSPDF administration and military helicopter was approved. About 8 people were transported to Tonj headquarters’.
Wol appeals to humanitarian agencies and well-wishers to intervene and rescue the situation with necessary needs.
Efforts made by Don Bosco Radio to reach the commissioners in the grass root for comments could not succeed.
He adds that the wounded people are undergoing medication.
