Torit Catholic Bishop, Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla has suspended his pastoral visit to the Central Denary of the diocese, until dry season because of poor roads.
He says majority of the roads in Torit State are so discouraging to move to other areas.
Torit-Juba road, Torit-Magwi and many other roads connecting the State capital to other counties are impassable.
Bishop Ameyu says he spent seven hours on Torit-Kapoeta road, an area approximately 75 kilometres from his pastoral visit to Ibonni Parish, because he got stuck six times before reaching the place.
Imehejek County Commissioner Mariano Oholong earlier admitted that bad roads are the major challenges and shortage of clean drinking water in the area.
He says ‘The security in our area since 2013 conflict up to now is not like before. We have challenges of roads and water. This is our bad situation now’. The commissioner stresses.
Oholong calls for construction of good roads to allow smooth movement of people and goods.
He also urges the communities to maintain peace for developmental projects to carry on.
Recently, Torit State Director General in the Ministry of Infrastructure, John Sebit Ciano disclosed that poor roads from town to counties have affected transportation of goods in the state.
He adds that his ministry was faced by financial challenges to repair broken roads, but now they have signed an agreement with World Food Program or WFP to start constructing Torit-Magwi road.
