A member of Cooperative Society for bee keeping in Palotaka of Ayaci County is warning local population in Torit State against killing bees and destroying beehives.

Lucy Biria says bees are very important in life because they help in plants pollination.

‘Bee keeping is very important in our life they pollinate our crops almost 70% we are getting from bee keeping by then we don’t know anything we can destroy, we burn them we don’t even care for them I came to know it is importance if the bees were not there we will die of hunger keeping bees is very important’, she explains.

Biria says their cooperative has produced a lot of honey, but lacks market.

The farmer says many people seems not aware about the importance of honey to human health.

‘We have produced pure 360 litres right now it packet we are selling, some are in Juba and some are in Torit here and the rest are now in the store. We are still continuing with the processing, we lack market we have not gotten a good market so that we can sell our products because many people seems not to know the importance of honey. We want to take our product to juba and to be taken to Torit is a problem the road is not good’, the lady notes.

She is urging the government and other partners to help in improving the road condition to enable them transport their products to other places for marketing.
