Thousands of people gathered at Gidel Freedom Square of Kumbur Payam in Heiban County on Friday evening to witness the wrestling competition between Tira and Otoro tribes.

Youths from Otoro of Eldo Payam threw down all four men of Kumbur Payam at one point when the wrestling began declaring them the winners of the event.

Otoro team leader, Abdalla Hassan Siliman, told Voice of Peace Radio that the event aimed at improving the mutual cooperation between two tribes of Tira and Otoro of Heiban County.

He adds that the wrestling also aims at preserving the cultures of the Nuba people to be extended to other counties of the region.

Chief Khamis Osman Mundu from Kumbur Payam says the wrestling competition was good despite a minor misunderstanding that occurred in the middle of the wrestling when two wrestlers turned violent against each other.

He calls on the youth of Eldo and Kumbur to respect one another during sports and competitions.

Kumbur Police Director, Musa Bashir Teka, urges the youths of the two tribes Tira and Otoro to have the spirit of sports to promote good culture and relationship as one people.

The wrestling competition was witnessed by both local community leaders who encouraged the young people to carry out the event in every Payam of the county.
