The International Organization for Migration or IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix team in South Sudan recently documented a report to improve service delivery in conflict affected areas.
Data collection for mobility tracking is repeated every three months to estimate the number of internally displaced persons or IDPs.
IOM in its report says continued conflict and communal tensions in parts of the country resulted in 52,268 new IDPs during the first three months of 2019.
‘For the first time, IOM is able to publish a comprehensive comparative overview of needs among IDP and returnee communities in South Sudan’ said IOM’s Chief of Mission in South Sudan, Jean-Philippe Chauzy.
The official hopes that the results of the assessment will enable the humanitarian community and the government to plan effective and deliver services to affected populations.
