Weather forecast shows higher wetter conditions in East Africa

The seasonal forecast of rainfall from October to December 2019 indicates higher chance of wetter conditions in South Sudan, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Somalia.
 
There is likelihood of wetter conditions over northern parts of the Sudan and Ethiopia and depressed rainfall in the northern Rift Valley of Ethiopia regions, it explains.
 
The forecast indicates that there are increased chances of drier than average conditions along the Red Sea areas of Sudan and Eritrea.
 
The forecast came during the 53rd Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum for October, November and December.
 
The meeting was organized by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre in collaboration with Tanzania Meteorological Authority on Wednesday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. 
 
Tanzania Meteorological Authority Director General, Dr Agnes Kijazi reminded the audience on the importance of early warning for early action.
 
Dr Ernest Afiesimama, World Meteorological Organisation representative, stressed on early communication for people to take decisions that contribute to communities’ resilience to climate shocks.
 
One of the officials, Dr Guleid Artan urged participants to follow the ten days and monthly forecasts updates released by the forecast.
