UNDP trains female chiefs on court proceedings in Torit

United Nations Development Program or UNDP trained female sub-chiefs and some members of courts in the five blocks of Torit Municipality on court proceedings to improve women access to justice.
 
Speaking during the meeting Torit State UNDP representative Lucia Jovane says female chiefs will now be able to perform their activities better in court, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
She says UNDP organized similar meetings quarterly to improve women access to justice.
 
Martha Jildo, a member of Mairo ‘A’ Court, says women receive threats and intimidations while settling case in residential areas.
 
She says one of her member was beaten recently as she was trying to do fair judgment among suspects.
 
Another female chief in Longute area A Court, Martha Ihure, accuses men of ignoring women in courtyards.
 
She says men minimize efforts attempted by women to solve issues in courts
 
The female chief explains that before their training, women chiefs were fearing to pass judgment, but now they are courageous enough.
 
Torit State Paramount Chief Magdalena Tito confirms women chiefs have been discriminated during court proceedings.
 
She advises male counterparts to cooperate with her female colleagues to deliver services to the population.
 
The speakers were speaking to Radio Emmanuel during a meeting in Torit on Thursday.
