National Ministry of Health trains journalists on guinea worm in Juba

National Ministry of Health in collaboration with Carter Center Guinea Worm Eradication Program on Thursday in Juba trained journalists on the dangers and early report of the disease.
 
Director of Guinea Worm Eradication at National Ministry of Health Makoy Samuel Yibi says fish can also carry Guinea worm and cause effect if not cooked well.
 
He advises journalists that they a great role to inform and educate people about the disease at their work areas.
 
Samuel urges people in isolated areas to filter the water before drinking or use
 
He discloses that Carter centre is giving cash reward system after every eradication campaign to motivate citizens in eliminating the disease in the country through reporting cases.
 
The Carter Center Country Representative Jake Wheeler says they train village volunteers to tie the patients with bandage and keep them out of water to avoid contamination.
 
He stresses that they are not curing the disease, but are providing basic medical intervention such as pain killers and bandaging patients to relieve them.
 
The victims of the Guinea worm show symptoms such as itching, swelling, blistering and emerged worm.
