A Nurse in charge of Children Ward at Rumbek State Hospital Mary Nyaluak Mabior complains lack admission space for patients in the health facility.
She says the available beds have fully been occupied by malaria patients, Good News Radio reports.
Mary explains that the number of patients is increasing in the ward and there are no enough beds to accommodate people for smooth treatment.
As you see children are sharing beds it is because malaria is increasing, so the beds are not enough for the children. We let them share the beds so that we will be able to give them the treatment’, she explains.
We can’t send them home, even if the beds are full, we tell them to go home and come with their mattresses then we provide them with treatment. Whether they sleep outside or inside, what we need is to help their lives’, she adds
Nyaluak adds that the ward is also facing challenges of health workers and few drugs for treating malaria.
‘The problem is the human resource, the nurses who are in the ward, they are few, but we are trying our level best so that we help our people. We have some drugs for malaria, but the problem is they are now reducing because the cases are increasing’, the nurse notes.
She adds that ‘the drugs now are reducing, we have few types of malaria drugs, but we are managing so that we can treat any child that has come to the ward’.
Nyaluak advises public to keep accessing hospital for earlier diagnosis.
Health worker made the statement to Good News Radio on Wednesday at Rumbek State Hospital.
