The number of patients admitted due to malaria at Rumbek State hospital wards is very high.
Speaking to Good News Radio, the nurse in charge of pediatric ward, Mary Nyaluak Mabior says many children are admitted in the ward with malarial cases.
She adds the hospital admits two patients on one bed due to lack of beds in the wards.
‘The ward is really crowded and we admit about 30 patients per day and patients are sharing a beds as we try our best to manages the cases,’ the nurse explains
Mary encourages people to go to the hospital and receive malarial treatment.
The nurse discourages self-medication and appeals for a malarial test before taking any drug.
A parent Zachariah Puoric Matuong whose child had been receiving treatment thanked the nurses for their commitment during their admission in the hospital.
The health worker urges the citizens to clear bushes, stagnant waters around their homes and sleep under mosquito net to avoid malaria.
The plasmodium parasite is spread by female Anopheles mosquitoes and they commonly bite between dusk and dawn.
