Carter Center and Ministry of Health in Rumbek gave Guinea worm patient in Pachong Payam on Monday 50,000 South Sudanese Pounds as an award.
Carter Center Monitoring and Evaluation Senior Program Officer, Daniel Deng Madit, explains that the cash award aims at encouraging the community to report any case of guinea worm.
He stresses that it is the collaboration between the organization and the community to report signs of Guinea worm for earlier management.
Rebecca Arual Apougi, wife of the patient says her husband was suffering from the guinea worm disease since last year which limited him from family duties.
Patient Maker Mabor Majak appreciates Carter Center for saving his life and promises to use the money for further medical attention.
The ceremony brought together over 500 hundred people, government officials, pupils and the community.
In 2017, South Sudan announced the country free from guinea worm.
But in 2018, Carter Center registered some cases in Tonj, North and another in former Jonglei State.
