UNMISS organizes sports activity for peace in Rumbek

UN Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Peace and Human Rights club in Western Lakes State, organized a one day sport activity and debate for peace in Rumbek.
 
The event targeted Secondary and Primary Schools to create social cohesion among students, to address the prolonged causes of conflicts in Rumbek, Good News Radio reports.
 
Fr Augustine Ekeno prays to God to change the hearts of the young people to choose peace and reject war.
 
Information Minister in Western Lakes State, Isaac Majak Ror describes the tournament as ‘important event’ to achieve peace.
 
The learners also held a debate on the motion, ‘Does bride price payment erodes the rights of women and girls and fuels root causes of conflict in Lakes State general?’
 
Savannah High School, Abukloi and Rumbek National, proposed the motion and Mazzolari, Riak Door and Loreto schools opposed it.
 
The activity brought together members and representatives of the reconciliation committees, UNMISS, top government officials and six Secondary Schools in Rumbek.
