The Diocesan Counselling Center or DCC Catholic Diocese of Yei commemorates the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is celebrated annually on 26 June. It is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade.

Sworo Alex Sorrows is the Director of Child Welfare Volunteer on Anti-drugs Alcoholic Campaign Program or ADACP. Sworo warns that drug abuse leads to unemployment; mental problem, family breakage and school dropout.

Founder of Anti-drugs Alcoholic Campaign, Fr Tom Poru says the program was founded in Yei because the county witnessed terrible loss of lives due to illicit drugs.

He blames the government of South Sudan because he it has done little in rehabilitating the lives of the people.

Fr Poru laments that many people resort to taking drugs and alcohol due to trauma.

2013-2016 war in South Sudan inflicted more psychological pain and torture on the population of Yei River State and the county at large.
