The UNMISS Human Rights Division conducted a workshop for journalists in Wau State on combating hate speech and protection of freedom of expression and equality.
UNMISS field officer in Wau Sam Muhumure says South Sudan is at a very critical movement and it needs the support from the journalists to make sure that they pass information that cannot cause conflict.
The officer urged all journalists to be careful in whatever they write and say.
Minister of Information Mary Rose Mariano says hate speech is the one fuelling all problems in Wau and South Sudan.
She advises all media practitioners to report professionally.
The speakers made the statements during the opening of the workshop on Thursday.
