Teachers from nine secondary schools in Western Lakes State have opened a case against William Koji Kerjok, former Deputy Governor and Acting Minister of Education over the missing of 10.68 million SSP capitation grant.

The capitation grant is a contribution from the government of South Sudan and the European Union to support the education sector in the country.

Radio Good News reports that Koji is expected to appear before the court on 18 June 2019.

Early this week, Koji admitted that half of the 21.31 million South Sudanese pounds was not delivered to the teachers. He however, denied responsibility.

Team leader Ustaz Gabriel kuc Abyiei, says they have sued the former deputy governor to answer the whereabouts of the missing money for the teachers.

Kuc adds that Koji is responsible and should account for it because he was the Acting Minister of Education.

He urges the former Deputy Governor to produce an authorization document of his boss concerning the money.

Meanwhile Advocate Lawyer Malith Jok Thiang Wundit, who presented the case to the court, confirmed the case.

Meanwhile, the former deputy governor says the case will be a lesson to everybody.

‘I am ready to face the court and that is what I was expecting because we have to make it very clear to our entire citizens of Western Lakes State. It has been a rumor all along and teachers have been waiting to know what happened to the remaining balance of their money. It has been allegation against me, it will be made clear in the court and this is what is supposed to be done’, said William Koji Kerjok.

This is the first time in Western Lakes State that former government officials are taken to court for mismanagements.

The teachers were speaking to Radio Good News at Rumbek high court premise.
