UN, AU and IGAD visit South Sudan to promote peace process

A joint UN/AU/IGAD mission led by United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix arrived in Juba Friday for a two-day visit. 
 
Commissioner for Peace and Security of the African Union Commission, Smail Chergui, and Special Envoy to South Sudan of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD, Dr. Ismail Wais came together with Lacroix.
 
In a press statement it says, the trip is to provide support to the peace process in South Sudan and further the extended the pre-transitional period.
 
The delegation is expected to meet with President Salva Kiir, senior government officials and representatives of the joint institutions established under the peace agreement.
 
The delegation will also talk to women’s representatives and the international community.
 
UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Lacroix will also visit Bor to see first-hand implementation of the peace agreement.
