Body of Alfred Taban to arrive in Juba Thursday

The Body of the former Chief Editor of Juba Monitor, Alfred Taban is expected to arrive in Juba on Thursday after he passed on at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, Uganda on Saturday.
 
The head of Information Committee in the National Assembly, Paul Yoane Bonju said on Wednesday that the body from Juba airport will be taken to his home.
 
He explained that there will be requiem mass for Alfred Taban on Friday at All Saints Cathedral in Juba.
 
MP Yoane said the body will be taken to Kajo-Keji for burial on Saturday.
 
Alfred Taban died as an MP representing Kajo-Keji County in Yei River State in the National Legislative Assembly.
 
He was also the head of Information and Communications in the National Dialogue, drawing on his influential career in South Sudan’s media. 
 
Alfred Taban was a broadcast journalist and former BBC correspondent in Khartoum Sudan. 
 
He was the founder of Khartoum Monitor, the voice of the voiceless, in Khartoum Sudan 
 
Taban was the former Chairman of the Association for Media Development in South Sudan or AMDISS and was a strong advocate for the freedom of the press in the young country.
 
As a condition of joining the National Dialogue, he negotiated the release of all 31 journalists held as political prisoners by the national government.
 
In July 2005, Speaker of the British House of Commons Michael Martin presented the Speaker Abbot award to Alfred Taban, in recognition of his work exposing the slaughter in Darfur.
 
In 2006, US President George W. Bush presented to Taban and two other African journalists the National Endowment for Democracy award.
