AMDISS postpones celebration of World Press Freedom Day

The Association of Media in South Sudan or AMDISS postpones the celebration of world press freedom day to allow journalist to pay tribute to their fallen icon Alfred Taban.
 
The celebration which was supposed to start with a meet and greet session by the journalists and other media stakeholders on May 2nd and 3rd has been postponed to May 9th.
 
The World Press Freedom Day is celebrated annually on May 3rd.
 
The postponement came after the champion of press freedom has fallen on April 27 and is being mourned by many in the country. 
 
During the commemoration of the World Press Freedom Day, media fraternity in South Sudan will celebrate Alfred Taban’s life and achievements in the fight for freedom of expression and abuse of human rights.
 
The body of the late veteran journalist is expected to arrive in Juba on Thursday at 2: 00 and a requiem mass will be held at All Saints Cathedral in Juba.
 
The late will be taken to the National Assembly on Friday morning for his fellow MPs to pay their last respect and will be flown to Kajo-Keji on Saturday for burial.
