A Civil Society Organizations’ Network or CiSON in Lakes region is calling on the government to speed up the investigation to the killing of a 20 year old lady by her relatives in Yirol.

Late Nyaluk Magorok was beaten to death by her brothers and father for refusing to get married.

In a statement CiSON calls on the State and higher authorities to immediately hold the responsible individuals to account.

‘The marriage and carnage are not only illicit but also atrocious, the practice of forced marriage denies women the opportunity to positively contribute to society’, the Civil Society Organization Network adds.

It stresses that the practice of forcing young girls and women to marry someone they do not love is a cruel act.

To a certain extent than being resourceful and inspirational leaders and members of society, women and girls are treated as shared merchandise, part of the statement reads.

The Network urges the government of Eastern Lakes State to ensure that people practicing gender-based violence are all brought to book.

The South Sudan Constitution Article 15 states that, ‘any person of marriageable age has the right to form a family’, and Article 17 guarantees women and girls the right to consent to marriage.
