EAC launches advanced criminal investigation training for police

The East African Community or EAC in partnership with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD and the Indian Ocean Commission have launched advanced training for police officers on criminal investigations.
 
EAC in a statement said the course is the maritime security strategy with a Euro 37.5 Million seed funding from the European Union.
 
The training started on Tuesday and is expected to end on May 5 in Mauritius for the officers.
 
Participants for the trainings are drawn from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Seychelles, Mauritius, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
 
Mauritius Minister for Justice, Human Rights Maneesh Gobin in the opening remarks called for collective action by regional states in combating transnational organized crime.
 
He called for the intensification of both horizontal and vertical information sharing among and within agencies and across states. 
 
Deputy Head of the EU Delegation in Mauritius Michael Gobalek, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Muktar Din Taujoo, and Commissioner of Prisons, Premananda Apadoo graced the occasion.
