The vicinity of the town is filthy because of poor waste management, according to the Torit Municipal Council Environment Officer.

Orra Zachariah told Radio Emmanuel on Monday that the Council plans for proper waste disposals around the town.

The officer says the Municipal Council has formed Block Planning Committees to oversee waste, environment and natural resource management in all residential areas of the town.

He calls for a collective responsibility from all communities in waste management as the rainy season approaches.

Zachariah says there environmental management in the town bi-laws are drafted awaiting for mayor’s approval.

He advises residents to either bury or burn rubbish at the main time as the municipal authority is looking forward to open up dumping sites.
