Torit State has joined the world to celebrate global world Water Day under the national theme ‘Water for All, Leave No One Behind’.
Veronica Atim is one of the organizing partners. She says the occasion aims at educating citizens on the sustainability of water points for safe use.
She calls on citizens to protect and keep water sources clean.
Oyito Baptist, Manager of Torit Urban Water and Sanitation warns that keeping water sources unclean may result to waterborne diseases such as cholera.
‘As we all know from our children, they know the importance of water now and everybody know the use of water. So if we need water, then we should sustain the water points. We have boreholes, we have the wells, and we have the river. So we should sustain and protect them. In the year 2014 there was an outbreak of waterborne diseases. So one of them was Cholera, so Cholera came into Torit because we were unable to make sure we protect our water’, Baptist said.
Wash Specialist for UNICEF, Michael Banja calls on partners to provide safe and sustainable water to people at grassroots.
WASH implementing partners in Torit include RWASA, NIRAS, Torit Urban Water and Sanitation, Welt Hunger Life and UNICEF.
World Water Day is annually celebrated on the 22nd March.
