The UN Development Plan or UNDP in Torit State has started training local chiefs on principle of law and human rights.

According to Radio Emmanuel, the five-day training is a continuous effort to ensure traditional leaders operate within the rule of law.

The workshop that gathers local chiefs from various counties in Torit State is under the theme ‘Towards a Sustainable Rule of Law and Access to Justice for All’.

Acting State Minister of Local Government, Margaret Idwa Okuye says the training will equip the local chiefs with knowledge for good governance.

‘You chiefs this is your tool whatever you are taught here, is for your tool so that when you are down in the ground and cases are brought to you, you should be able to judge those cases justly. And you will be able to give the right to whoever comes to you for that help’ she advised.

Idwa encourages the chiefs to focus on changing the lives of their citizens by practicing the rule of law.

State Director of Local Government, Mustafa Albino says the training will help the chief on the transmission of the rule of law, especially the customary law in communities.
