The Disable Agency for Rehabilitation and Development or DARD in partnership with SAFERWORLD on Friday enlightened the community on peaceful coexistence in Gok State.
The awareness raising campaign on peaceful coexistence and women empowerment was under the theme: ‘Peace eradicates poverty in the society’.
Hakim Cipuou-Nyuc Awur, DARD Executive Director in Lakes region appreciates the state government and its citizens for accepting peace in Gok State.
He said the campaign aims at engaging community elders, youth, women and general public to begin restoring lasting peace to the people of Lakes states.
Cipuou-Nyuc encouraged the state government to begin the implementation of women’s 35% percent given by the revitalized peace agreement to employ more women into relevant positions.
Williams Mapuor Marial, SAFERWORLD Coordinator told the gathering to accept peace and work hard in their gardens in order to eradicate poverty through peaceful coexistence in the country.
‘We can only eliminate hunger if youth stop conflict and begins clearing their gardens in order to allow free cultivation of crops early’, Mapuor adds.
Gok Deputy Governor Kongoor Deng Kongoor welcomes DARD and SAFERWORLD to carry out their peace activities in the state.
He urges peace partners working in the state to begin addressing alarming conflict between farmers and pastoralists as rainy season approaches to avoid clashes.
The speakers made the remarks during community awareness campaign in Cuiebet, Gok State supported by UKAID.
