The Speaker of Torit State Transitional Legislative Assembly is calling for an end to bad traditional practices that violate the rights of women and girls in the society.
In an exclusive interview with Radio Emmanuel, Charles Udwar Ukech points some cultures that view girls as a source of wealth instead of sending them to school.
He says such attitude allows men to dominate positions in offices.
‘Our Cultures especially in the schools don’t value our daughters. The cultures do not allow our girls to go to school because of that we have a higher percentage of educated men. That is one of the reasons why women do not have more positions’ These cultures are now changing as you can see we have more educated women who can take positions. I believe the number of women in future will overcome the percentage of men if they are sent to school.
Speaker Udwar hopes the percentage of women will increase as they get enrolled in schools.
Meanwhile Margret Kasara Kiwa, Chairperson for Women Parliamentary Caucus says women can do any job that men do.
