The implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement has not improved security, economic, humanitarian and social conditions in Yei River State, says South Sudan Civil Society Forum in its assessment report.
It says continuous violence between South Sudan People’ Defence Force and NAS negatively affects the civil population where people are displaced, abducted, tortured, killed and their property looted or destroyed.
The Forum says people’s movements are restricted, making it difficult for those living in Yei town to access their farms outside town and for those living in villages to access health services in the town.
It cautions that without immediate action to cease hostilities, the fighting may intensify and escalate beyond Yei.
The Forum adds that fighting will further impede implementation of the agreement in many locations, hinder humanitarian operations and increase displacement of civilians.
It calls on the warring parties to cease military confrontations and actions that may cause harm to civilians in Yei River State.
The Forum calls on the parties to embark on dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues relating to the conflict.
It appeals to IGAD as the guarantor to ensure that all signatories to the revitalized agreement adhere to all provisions of the deal.
