The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security and the UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict renewed their commitment to work together to end the enrollment of kids in conflict situations.
Federica Mogherini and Virginia Gamba say EU and UN will also support the reintegration of children associated with parties to conflict.
They pledged to keep working to ensure that the human rights of children are fully integrated in global work on conflict prevention, peace-building, mediation and reconstruction.
The two leaders add that they will strive to support these boys and girls, including by working to prevent the recurrence of conflict and build sustainable peace.
The EU and the UN currently support the implementation of Action Plans to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children by parties to conflict, they say.
The two leaders spoke on Tuesday during 19th anniversary of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict.
