Seven million people, approximately two third of the population of South Sudan are in dire need of humanitarian assistance and protection in 2019.
This came in UN Children agency or UNICEF humanitarian situation report of 1-31 December 2018.
The report says the situation is due to increasing effects of years of conflict, violence and destroyed livelihoods.
It reveals that the country remains in serious humanitarian crisis though the situation is no longer escalating rapidly.
The report also says the revitalized peace process promises to offer new opportunities in 2019 for South Sudan’s women, men and children.
In 2018, UNICEF in coordination with partners reached 205,641 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition and another 257,842 children with psychosocial support
UNICEF and partners continue to closely monitor the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It is also intensifying preventive and preparedness activities in targeted high-risk areas and potential points of entry.
