NIRAS supports farmers in Himodonge Payam

Water for Eastern Equatoria project known as NIRAS is providing technical support and agricultural equipment to farmers in Himodonge Payam of Torit County.
 
Deputy team leader Andrew Yunda Stephen told famers in Ofong Boma over the weekend, that the organization had been supporting many farmers growing crops in the county.
 
He says the project this year will support progressive farming to grow crops like egg plants, Sukuma, spinach and Tomatoes.
 
Mr. Yunda reveals provision of seeds, basic tools and diesel water pump will be avail to boost farming activities in the state.
 
Today we are having farmers field day in himodonge payam in  Arwa Joseph farm whom we have spotted progressive farmer to cultivate egg plant, sukuma, sinach and tomatoes, this is the only farm we are supporting, we had been supporting many farmers in eastern Equatoria, but particularly this year we decided to support what we call progressive farmers in himodonge we have Erwa Joseph farm within the municipality we have around four making five, we have provided them with seeds, basic tools and water pumps that they using, families in Torit things are not coming from Uganda know things are available.’
 
Erwa Joseph a farmer in Himodonge payam says his farm has helped him buy herbicides for his crops like tomatoes and other vegetables.
 
Joseph stresses farming helps him affords school fees for his children amidst economic difficulties and insecurity last year.
 
This cultivation can help me too because what Niras has done to me now I can buy Drugs, and ros, and I can buy anything I can connect with this tomatoes and it will help me in future, not me alone but all citizens of Torit that is what am struggling for, next season I will earn more from this, sometimes we work with fear because that time was bad because of the insecurity we face but from now things are okay.’
 
Mr. Joseph advises citizens embark on agricultural activities to reduce prices of perishable goods like tomatoes eggplant among others in the market
