‘Balancing diet remains a challenge to some mothers’, says Doctor

The Medical Director of St Theresa Nzara Hospital is appealing to mothers to learn how to balance diet for their kids to fight cases of severe acute malnutrition in children under five years.
 
Dr. Taban Charles says much as the hospital also receives cases of malaria and pneumonia, acute malnutrition is also severe, Anisa Radio reports.
 
Adding that a child admitted with severe acute malnutrition has more chances of death compare to a child admitted due to malaria and pneumonia.
 
He advises parents to be taught on the types of foods that can minimize the child from getting malnutrition.
 
The Doctor explains that getting nutritional diet does not mean only eating chicken and meat, but about identify locally available foods in the community that can give the right nutrients.
 
Taban mentions that parents may be giving the right variety of food to their children but the aspect of preparation is lacking because folic acid is very sensitive to heat if they over boil the food.
