A trauma healing trainer working for Albain Institute is advising citizens to manage trauma.
Trauma is a psychological, emotional response to an event or an experience that is deeply distressing or disturbing.
Fr Paul Boyle, a trainer for trauma healing and stress management says the long war between Sudan and South Sudan and the recent war has created trauma among people.
During a workshop on trauma organized by Catholic Relief Services or CRS, Boyle adds that youth are the most traumatized people in South Sudan.
He says majority of the bad things, including killings in the country are committed by the young people because of trauma.
Fr Boyle urges people to have faith and think well so that they also behave well.
‘When we have faith in God, it helps us to think well and people who think well, have positive thinking. When you think well, you feel and behave well. In South Sudan, because of the trauma, people have negative thoughts, feelings and terrible behavior’.
One of the participants, Bolis Peter, says the workshop was very important because it gave them skills of how to manage stress and overcome trauma.
He says many South Sudanese live with trauma because of many bad things including war.
Another participant advises South Sudanese to put God at the centre in any situation they go through.
