At least 179 houses were burnt in disputed area of Iswore Payam forcing hundred to leave their homes for refuge to the neighbouring of Katire Payam.
Dominic Onyu, commissioner of Geria County while talking to Radio Emmanuel says Katire payam is now holding 600 displaced persons whose houses were burnt to ashes due to border disagreement.
According to him, most of the displaced persons are women and children.
Commissioner Onyu says displaced persons sheltering in Katire Primary School are in dire need of humanitarian aid as no humanitarian agency intervened to rescue them.
He appreciates communities of Geria for supporting displaced person with some few food items.
Commissioner Onyu strongly condemns the acts saying people who burned the houses are enemies of human dignity and peace.
While Charles Okullu, Chairperson for Civil Society Network Eastern Equatoria States calls for immediate support to the displaced persons of Iswore Payam.
“We regret of all the atrocities, all the mistakes, the huge displacement that has taken place in that location’, he laments.
Late last year Torit State government mandated the civil society organizations to settle border disputes between Geria and Ayachi County, but efforts were unsuccessful due to poor logistical arrangement.
Radio Emmanuel could not reach Ayachi County Commissioner for comments.
