Community leaders conclude human rights training in Torit

Local chiefs and law actors in Torit municipality concluded two-day training on human rights, gender-based and Child Act dissemination in Torit on Wednesday.
 
The training organized by Humanitarian and Development Consortium with funds from UNDP aims at empowering chiefs and lawyers on tackling of gender-based issues in the community, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel, Consortium project aid officer for Torit and Wau Barnabas Kuir says the training build capacity in dispute resolution.
 
Kuir explains that the training concluded with eight resolutions concerning local authorities to follow to end women and children rights’ violations..
 
He says some customary laws in South Sudan contradict the constitution especially gender-based issues.
 
The legal consultant regrets most traditional practices including rape, forced and early marriages victimizing women and children.
