A wounded strip hyena on Monday attacked and bit a woman on her way to her garden some three miles east of Torit town.
Emmanuel Radio reports that Khamisa Augusta is currently taking medication at Torit Hospital after battling with the hyena that bites her all over the body.
Torit State Director for Wildlife Conservation Brigadier General Paulino Oliha Diromoi confirms to Radio Emmanuel that the same hyena on Monday evening was scaring the people at Ifwanyak area, but his forces killed it.
The Wildlife Director regrets the incident and calls on the population to avoid moving on long distances on foot at night.
He points out that the government will not compensate any damage caused by wild animals beyond three miles from residential areas.
Despite fears and panic caused, director Oliha warns the population against the killing of wild animals.
Article 157 sections 6 of the transitional constitution of South Sudan states that Wildlife Service shall coordinate and cooperate with local communities on the protection and management of wildlife within their areas.
