DARD condemns assassination of traditional chief in Lakes region

Disable Agency for Rehabilitation and Development or DARD strongly condemns the killing of Chief Mayiek Biling and his son in Western Lakes State.
 
A prominent leader known by his nick name Cuat-gotic Mayek Biling was assassinated by armed assailants on his way to Akot in Eastern Bar Naam of Western Lakes State last Friday.
 
It says the act is calamity to the people of Lakes States and South Sudan in general.
 
‘We appeals to governments of the two states to stop finger pointing and work closely to investigate and bring assailants to book for the law to take its cost, DARD pleads.
 
The incident occurred as chief and his son were travelling to Akot Payam in Eastern Bahr Naam County to attend a peace conference between disputing communities of Western and Eastern Lakes States.
 
Eastern Bahr Naam County Commissioner Mabor Makuac told the press on Sunday that armed men shot and killed Chief Mayek Biling and his son Ater Mayek on Friday.
 
‘The chief was killed as he was travelling to Akot to attend a peace conference. His son called Ater Mayek who was driving the motorcycle was also killed by the attackers’, commissioner adds.
 
The two states government calls off the planned peace conference after the killing of the tribal chief as citizens continue appealing to the national government to investigate the incident.
 
This revenge killings, cattle rustling and border disputes are identified as key causes of insecurity in greater Lakes region.
